Day of Unity

What an aptly named event to commemorate the one year anniversary of the Joplin F5 tornado.  Aptly named because the Day of Unity focused not on an event that ripped our town in half but an event that brought people from all over to our town for cleaning up and rebuilding.

I felt honored to walk with these people back along the path that, although barren in most spots, is also dotted with new homes and buildings.

It was very cool to be with thousands of others to watch a steeple being placed on a newly built church.

It was very cool to watch the ground breaking for the new high school.

It was also very cool to end the day in the newly build Cunningham Park across from the old St. John’s Hospital and share a moment of silence.

Thanks to all who helped to make this a special event.
